Recipe: Make Apple-Granola Bars with the Kids

Published Monday March 19, 2007 by Elliot

granolabarsDan and I were watching Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends and a commercial came on. The commercial wanted me to type www.ajli.org into the computer. I wasted no time, and complied with the request. Within a minute I came across this recipe for granola bars. Thanks Kids in the Kitchen…and fate!

Note: I like this idea of kids in the kitchen. I hope to have kids someday…and once they hit seven they will be required to cook three meals a week for me and the wifey.

What follows is the transcribed recipe I came across in what can only be described as, “one of those moments when television outdoes itself.” It has a medium difficulty rating, so be sure to have both eyes firmly on those kids…in the kitchen.

Ingredients:
2 large eggs
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 cups granola

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Grease the inside (bottom and sides) of an 8-inch square pan with butter or vegetable oil.
  • Crack the eggs into a medium bowl; beat with a fork until the yolks and whites are mixed.
  • Add the applesauce to the eggs, stirring until well mixed.
  • Stir in the granola; mix well.
  • Press the mixture into the greased pan.
  • Place the pan in the oven.
  • Bake for 20 minutes; carefully remove the pan from the oven using potholders.
  • Set the pan on a wire rack to cool. Cut into bars.

Makes 7 servings.
